AI Is Already Killing Web Publishers

They are variously called “Web-Connected LLMs,” “Web-Enabled LLMs,” or even “Internet-Augmented LLMs.” Whatever you like to call them, they are AI models with the ability to browse the web. This is a fantastic feature for users who need summaries of timely information. For advertiser-supported publishers, it’s the beginning of the end of days – LLMs don’t click on ads.

Job seekers say they’re focused on pay, job security

Job seekers in the U.S. are prioritizing pay, job security and engagement as they face longer job hunts, according to a June 18 report from Aerotek. In a spring 2024 survey of more than 1,400 job seekers, pay topped a list of eight motivators in the job search, followed by employment security, opportunities to learn new skills and potential for career advancement. About 41% of job seekers said pay was the most important motivator when deciding to accept a new job, climbing up from 37% in spring 2023. Job security increased as a priority to nearly 20% of job seekers in spring 2024, continuing an upward trend from 14% in spring 2023.

Tech Talent Charter closes as firms shelve diversity initiatives

A non-profit organisation set up nine years ago to improve diversity and inclusion across the UK tech sector is closing due to companies shelving initiatives and decreasing budgets. Tech Talent Charter, which represents almost a quarter of a million tech workers, will cease operations in August. The advocacy organisation works in close partnership with tech employers across the UK to promote diversity and inclusion. More than 800 tech employers are signatories to Tech Talent Charter’s goals. However, the organisation, which is partially funded by the government, said “too many companies are quiet quitting” diversity and inclusion.

LinkedIn Takes Aim At Recruiting Agency-land

LinkedIn’s guidelines for third-party job postings are a masterclass in how the platform is using “authenticity” as a weapon to further monetize the relationship between a bevy of ATSs and the XML feeds of thousands of Recruiting Agencies that rely on “free” postings to engage with active applicants. In short, recent changes to protect the network should be a moment to pause and reflect for recruiting agencies or Agencyland. Under the auspices of the new August 2024 requirements, stricter visibility rules for third-party jobs kick in. While LinkedIn’s audits are intended to ensure compliance, non-adherence means your listings might get the boot.
